Interview - Erroneous Approach

Reaching the stage of interview itself shows that a candidate has crossed initial barriers and he stands on the verge of being selected for the aspired job. Many a candidate wonders as to why he was rejected despite the fact that he replied to each and every question correctly. The answer to this question lies not in the facts that a candidate has given, but the approach that he has adopted. In the succeeding paragraphs we shall deal specifically with those situations where a candidate commits vital mistakes, but finds himself unable to make out.
Let us understand this point at the outset that every organisation needs a person for a certain post of a certain calibre. In other words, the interviewer makes out a list of all those characteristics and personal traits that he is going to look for in a candidate. He then bases his questions according to this list.
It may also be noted that the interviewers generally reject a candidate summarily at the outset who has shown some marked negativity or unsuitability for the job. On the other hand, they take considerable time to test and analyse a candidate’s personality to reach a final conclusion whether he can be put on the merit list or can be outright selected.
The way a question or query is attended to by a candidate has bearing on the final outcome, because the interviewer is already undertaking a strenuous job of screening candidates who have reached this stage. Therefore, a candidate must be prudent and cautious while answering them.
Here, we shell make a humble attempt to list the questions and the ways to tackle them with due analysis, because it is not barely sufficient to answer a question on factually correct lines. There works a psychology behind it. A factually correct answer can also be wrong in approach, that is what we emphasise here.
It also remains a fact that various candidates would answer the same question in very many ways keeping with the intellectual level and the traits they possess. A candidate should not exhibit any negative traits and should in all cases try to avoid contradiction to any statement that he has already made. A candidate can avail the opportunity to reveal such traits of his personality in a subtle manner to which questions have not been asked for. That is the way to kill two birds with one stone.
From now on, we shall discuss some important pitfalls. Be sure to re-visit. Thanks.
