THE CUCKOO - Short Essay

We are very familiar with a cuckoo. It is a very common bird in our country during the spring time. A cuckoo is as black as a crow, but it is slightly shorter in size. It has a very long tail. It lives in bushes and trees and eats fruits, worms and insects.
A cuckoo is well-known as a beautiful song bird all over the world. It is noted for its sweet musical melody. A cuckoo announces the advent of spring. So, it is called the harbinger of spring. We cannot think of spring without its call. The two are inseparable. The sweet and sovereign call of the cuckoo fills the whole atmosphere with a pleasant joy. But a cuckoo can no longer be found as soon as the spring is over. For ages, ‘cuckoo’ has been a favourite topic for the poets to compose and writers to write.
A cuckoo has one great peculiarity. It cannot hatch its own eggs. So, it lays eggs in the nest of a crow. The female crow hatches its eggs without knowing the reality. Thus, a cuckoo is a bit selfish though very sweet.
