Direct and Indirect Speech : Proposals and Requests

If there is a proposal in the Reported Speech, said is changed to proposed or suggested, the Conjunction that is used and let is replaced by should; for example :
Direct Speech : He said to me, “Let us first make a plan for the outing.”
Indirect Speech : He proposed to me that we should first make a plan for the outing.
Direct Speech : The mechanic said to his assistant, “Let us open the machine and then locate the fault.”
Indirect Speech : The mechanic suggested to his assistant that they should open the machine and then locate the fault.
