TOURISM IN INDIA - Short Essay

India is one of the oldest countries in the world, full of charming and attractive sites and places of historical, tourist and religious importance. All of them are engulfed in myths and legends. India is the country of contrasts from architectural and cultural perspectives. If you want to amuse yourself with food, culture, language, clothing and various traditions, India is the right place for you to visit. With the population of over one billion people, India is a multicultural country with each of its state having its own unique identity that determines and directs its history. India's rich history and its cultural and geographical diversity make it an attractive tourist destination. It presents diverse facilities for heritage and cultural tourism along with medical, business and sports tourism.
One of the most important tourist destinations in India is Goa where the Indian culture intertwines with Portuguese culture. To cap it, Goa has pretty beaches, awesome seafood, vivid nightlife and amazing water sports. And we can find beaches all along the seacoasts in India, right from West Bengal to Tamil Nadu to Gujarat.
Kashmir is popularly known as the Paradise on Earth. It is a major tourist attraction for those who love mountains. Located in northern India, it is situated among the picturesque Himalaya and Pir Panjal mountain ranges. The whole of the Kashmir valley is replete with beauty with lakes, freshwater streams, orchards, ice-capped mountains and lush green meadows. There is something to watch for people of all interests. Other than Kashmir, there are a number of hill stations spread all over India, in Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and even Rajasthan.
Kerala, God’s own country, offers a very unique travel experience; it is famous for its natural beauty, amazing white sand beaches, delicious sea food, Ayurvedic health resorts, enchanting art forms, magical festivals, cultural monuments and backwaters.
The mere mention of Rajasthan conjures up images and visions of the Maharajas, Rajputana, brave and fearless Rajput warriors, breathtaking palaces and forts along with royal hospitality and splendour.  Rajasthan is known for some of the most interesting and beautiful places in the world, be it Jaipur the capital city, palaces of Udaipur, forts of Jodhpur and Chittorgarh, the barren but beautiful deserts of Bikaner and so on. It is a shopper’s delight with textiles in mirror work, embroidery and prints, semi-precious stones and handicrafts like wooden furniture, carpets and blue pottery. Music and culture aficionados will love the highly cultivated classical music and dance unique to Rajasthan. You can also find sites of historical importance all over India, especially Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and so on.
As far as places of religious importance are concerned, they are innumerous. You will find them right from Kashmir to Kerala and from Punjab to Tripura, and they belong to all faiths that we find in India.
And now we turn our attention to the most beautiful memento of love, the Taj Mahal. It attracts thousands of tourists everyday. It was built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It is a dream in marble, which shines in full glory on Full Moon.
