Use of Comma (,)

1. A Comma is used to separate similar types of words :
We have a wide range of gifts : pictures, photo frames, crockery, showpieces and vases.
The meeting was attended by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and DIG.
2. A Comma is used to separate question tags :
You will finish this painting before 7, won't you?
Those children have not plucked flowers, have they?
3. The Comma is used to separate Yes/No from rest of the sentence :
Yes, he is my friend.
No, I cannot go with you.
4. The Comma is used to separate Reporting Verb from Reported Speech :
He said to me, "I shall bring you some new dress for the party."
"I shall help you cross the road," the young man said to the old lady.
"If you wish," said the lady, "I can cook something tasty for you."
5. The Comma is used to separate introductory phrase in a sentence :
Therefore, the matter will be discussed in detail now.

6. The Comma is used to separate words in apposition :
Sachin, a great cricketer, has decided to take retirement from cricket.
Tarun, an engineer, has built this bridge.
7. The Comma is used to separate address :
