Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

 1.         Migratory birds do not find the area around Delhi attractive enough as numerous water bodies are on the verge of drying up. These include those along the Najafgarh drain, various lakes around Faridabad, the Sultanpur National Park-cum-Bird Sanctuary and 70-odd water bodies around Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Ghaziabad.

2.         These water bodies where migratory birds, both local and foreign, spend their winter are fast drying up and are slowly losing their charm for the bird watchers. Most of the ponds in this region have been encroached upon or have turned into garbage dumps.

3.         Though the Supreme Court has given a ruling to remove all types of encroachments from the ponds, the situation has not improved.

4.         Since the governments of three states are involved that need to take steps in this direction, little is being achieved. Another reason for the lackadaisical approach is the lack of awareness among the government officials.
