GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming has posed a great threat to mankind in recent times. During the last ten years, it has increased to dangerous levels. Never before the earth became as warm as it has been of late.
There are clear indications that our planet earth is getting warmer day-by-day. Scientists are afraid that this earth might be destroyed within fifty years by some natural calamity. The North Pole and South Pole have started melting gradually. As a result, destruction and damage to marine life has become critical due to the rising temperature of sea waters. The Gangotri Glacier, which is the main source of water for the Ganges, is reported to have been shrinking over the last few years. Rainfall recorded in different parts of the world has been quite erratic and irregular. These symptoms confirm the incidence of growing temperature on the earth.
There are various causes for the earth getting warmer. The major reasons for this global warming are large scale deforestation, consumption of fossil fuels for transport, industrial and cooking purposes; excessive and indiscriminate use of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and insecticides in cultivation, and pollution due to various other causes.
To combat the challenge of global warming, alternative energy resources have to be invented and used. The use of biological and natural fertilisers, insecticides and pesticides has to be ensured. The menace of global warming must be fought with a global planning.
